This was not a decision we took lightly. For years Maximus employees like myself have been trying to organize a union with the Communications Workers of America while fighting for the wages and benefits we need to take care of our families. However, high turnover and Maximus interfering with our right to organize has made it difficult. By striking today, we hope to send a message to Maximus that we are not going away and we won’t stop until we win.

Maximus is a multi-billion dollar Federal contractor that provides administration and services for Medicaid, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act among other services. And although Maximus serves the American people, Maximus CEO Bruce Caswell’s compensation in 2021 was $7,906,006, and the median employee's compensation was $38,059. That’s a ratio of 208 to 1!


While Caswell makes millions, I have struggled to choose which bills I’m going to pay and how to put food on the table for my family. While Caswell makes millions, Maximus continues to interfere with employee efforts to organize, sometimes resorting to unfair labor practices. While Caswell makes millions, I’ve struggled to afford my diabetes medication. Simply put, we need change and a union at Maximus.
