Why Soviet socialism was contained ?

The world historic war making and threat of nuclear war on the Soviet Union by imperialism was the reason it's socialism was reduced to a state based provision society of basket of consumer goods and declared rights. After the Nazi slaughter and economic destruction , they had to build socialism from scratch a second time and build defense against nuclear weapons that the US kept escalating ; and have an authoritarian state structure for defense. Through its entire existence , the Soviet Union had to have some level of "War Communism" or preparation for war communism. It will only be possible to build full citizen participatory socialism when there is no more imperialism in the world, i.e. when we win socialism in the US. Abolish the Republican Party as We know it. Sam: "Socialism's viability and potential as an egalitarian, sustainable, peaceful, and fully democratic society turns in the first place on an engaged and empowered citizenry in every sphere of life. It shouldn't be reduced to a state based provision society whether the provision be a basket of consumer goods or proclaimed rights. The latter was tried and in the end went belly up. And it wasn't simply the doing of imperialist pressure and the productivity of the capitalist economy. Marx famously wrote that the working class would be the "grave diggers" of capitalist society, but I have to wonder if he accented enough that socialism's associated producers and citizens are the essential creators of a new economy, polity, culture, and society.
