US electoral democracy is privatized electoral plutocracy

To tout US bourgeois electoral democracy as a world model after the US Supreme Court _Citizens United_ case is a stupid joke.  Money rules elections more than ever, and money always has been the mother's mile of US politics.

US electoral democracy is an electoral plutocracy.  The government and laws serve fundamentally and extensively the few who buy the votes with commercials and bribe the candidates with campaign money, not the many who vote.  Many of the many play along and sell their votes based on commercials.

Mike Ballard Too bad you don't have compulsory voting in the USA.
Charles Brown That's because the bourgeois know it would mess up the above setup. It's sort of chicken-and-egg. We don't have compulsory voting or voting day holiday, because it can only be had by it getting voted in , and votes are controlled as above. The US bourgeoisie are past masters at preventing the electoral system from functioning democratically, such that the majority of the people rule. It is electoral plutocracy , not democracy.

Occupy Madison Avenue !

Thought Control television system; disdain of politics

 Occupy Madison Avenue !

Charles Brown I'm at a loss , too, Aphrodite Kavyas. We had an awesome door-to-door canvassing campaign to try to compensate for the big money gap. Schauer ran on class. It was 99% vs 1%. A huge percent of the 99% has brains still plugged into the media Thought Control system television especially - Electrodes embedded in heads.

Another huge chunk of the 99% ( with tv electrodes in heads , too) are still, understandably, alienated from politics; and that because a major part of the Thought Control system ( which is run by the private sector, not the government; Big Brother in fact as opposed to fiction, is not the government , but Wall Street), is to make citizens think badly of government; to equate civic duty with dogging elected officials constantly, and eternally . Thus, "politician" is a dirty word by current American custom and habit of thought. "Politics" are dirty. "Oh that's politics" is to attribute illicit motive.

Charles Brown You are damn right I blame the Republicans more than i blame the Democrats. It was nowhere near the Democrats blew something they should have won. Already in Obama's low favor ability ratings , the white masses were signaling that they were ready to repeat the white supremacist disgrace of 2010. What the hell were Democratic candidates ( politicians , already on most dumbass American's shit list)... , supposed to do ?
We have politically barbarian hordes of Republican voters created by decades of Reaganite brainwashing by television and the movies, radio and newspapers. _1984_ from circa 1984.

Republican barbarians must be morally denounced constantly all year , every day religiously., ritually

The main problem is not the people who don't vote. It is the people who vote for Republicans. They need to get a clue. It's just getting dangerously stupid . Rip van Winkle needs to wake up.

Or maybe people who vote Republican are either stupid or paid off , sold out. For example, Snyder cut state revenue sharing to Detroit and shifted it to some smaller cities and towns. He probably bought a lot of votes like that. So, those people are actually smart.

Opportunists for Republicans

  • Aphrodite Kavyas You know, Jonathan. I disagree with your assessment. I think that most people who run for office, especially those who run as Ds, do so with the noblest of intentions. I think our campaign finance system is so awful, they have no choice but to tack to the center or be creamed in elections by the billions of dark money. Sort of off topic, but related as far as the power of the wealthy lobbying group, there was a fascinating article in the New Yorker recently about the power of AIPAC. It is quite frightening to think that that is how policy is done every day. So you do get people like Warren and Sanders who are able to do and say what they (and there voters) want and thus forgo the big corporate campaign money, but only because they are from states with highly educated and actively voting populations.

  • Charles Brown Some of them . Obama represents most of the Democratic voters , and he has an agenda. The Republican Party's agenda is horrific. To speak as if Obama represents no Democrats and has no agenda is Wankerism.

  • Jonathan Walters Aphrodite, they may do so with the best of intentions, and that may go for most republicans as well, but the reality is, the entire atmosphere is so polluted right now that nobody is willing to compromise. So instead of saying, 'hey you give me this an...See More
  • Jonathan Walters Charles, 1) This isn't just about Obama, it's the entire party.

    2) Obama's agenda really doesn
  • Charles Brown Obama is the leader of the Democratic Party, Jonathan Walters, so his agenda _is_ the DP agenda. It's always like that in US history. A twice elected President is the head of the Party he or she ( smiles) is in .
  • Aphrodite Kavyas Deathray, brilliant. Depressing, but he expresses it better than anyone. This especially: And simple morality tales will always yield more motivated, organized constituencies than "it’s complicated" ever will.
  • Jonathan Walters Deathray, David Robert's entire thesis is based on one particular SCOTUS case, but that case is more related to the utter dysfunction in congress. As Bruce has pointed out, typo's are a fact of life, and in a normal world, Congress would pass an amending bill to correct the typo.
  • Charles Brown Obama's agend really DOES get it. It is the most advanced agenda on the US political scene. The Republicans have a fascist agenda, and all that stands between us and fascism is Obama as President. He's like the Little Dutch Boy with his finger in the dike averting political catastrophe.
