Republicans just cut Americans’ health care and food assistance to pay for tax cuts for billionaires

Friend – President Trump just signed a bill into law that will rip health care away from hundreds of thousands of Michiganders, make it harder for families across the country to afford groceries and pay their energy bills, and increase our national debt by trillions of dollars. <


My Democratic colleagues and I did everything we could to stop this betrayal of the American people, but President Trump and Republicans in Congress were dead set on selling out hardworking families to pay for their massive tax cuts for billionaires.


I’ve heard from folks all across Michigan whose lives will be turned upside down by this bill. A constituent in Grand Rapids who won’t be able to pay for an assisted living facility for her grandmother without Medicaid. A mom from Flint who said Medicaid is the only reason her kids can get their asthma medication or have regular health checkups. Folks in Lansing who won’t be able to afford their lifesaving medication.



This bill goes beyond cutting Medicaid. It slashed food assistance programs and will raise the cost of energy — forcing some families in Michigan to choose between putting food on the table and keeping their home warm in the winter.


But I’m going to keep fighting for the hardworking families in our state. Michiganders deserve better than this betrayal from President Trump and Republicans in Congress.
