Dear signatories to the Declaration on Women’s Sex-Based Rights, Democrats at the state level are standing up and saying no to their party leadership on the issue of male athletes being allowed to compete in women’s sports. In 2022, several Democrats voted yes on a bill to protect women’s sports for women and girls in Louisiana and one did the same in Pennsylvania. Three Democrats in the North Carolina House followed suit in 2023. Two North Carolina Democrats even voted to override their own party’s Governor’s veto of the bill in August. It’s time for Democrats in the U.S. Senate to stand up for women and girls by passing the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.

On December 15, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit reinstated the case of four female athletes deprived of honors and opportunities at elite track-and field levels by male athletes permitted to compete against them in the case of Soule v. CIAC. The Senate has the ability to bring justice to these young women by sending the PWGSA to the President’s desk, avoiding the need for further costly litigation. On April 20, the U.S. House voted to pass H.R. 734, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023. Now the bill is before the Senate. A similar bill, also in the Senate, is S. 613, which was introduced in March and is currently before the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committee. We have created an easy action for signatories to email their U.S. Senators and urge them to pass one of these bills. This should not be a partisan issue. Use the button below to complete the action. In solidarity, The WDI USA Board Kara Dansky Megan Rose Lauren Levey Irene Lawrence Lorraine Nowlin Katherine Kinney
