On climate policy, Guterres noted that five major Western oil companies have accumulated nearly half a trillion dollars in profits since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, compared with just 34 billion dollars in international public adaptation finance for developing countries, calling for developed nations to triple adaptation funding and strengthen the Loss and Damage Fund. He additionally called intelligence, warning against the use of autonomous weapons systems and insisting that life-and-death decisions must never be surrendered to machines, while confirming the UN has achieved gender parity across senior leadership positions for the first time in its history.
