Abolish male supremacy not binary gender

The basic gender binary is an analogy to binary sex in all human societies, indigenous American and all around the globe. Hermaphroditism , homosexual , transvestitism have been incorporated forever, not just since the bourgeois "trans" fad. But third genders don't demolish the basic binary, because biology has an absolute binary - eggbearers and sperm bearers. There are no third types. So , the basic binary pair female-male: woman-man, remains even as third genders are added.

The goal is abolish male supremacy, not binary gender.

Different combinations and numbers of X and Y chromosomes do not produce a third type of gamete cell, so they all result in one of the two sex cell types if they result in a sex cell type. Sex is ultimately a phenotype , not a genotype.

Cave drawings as totem/taxonomyDid alcohol and mood altering substance contribute to human evolution/civilization/development?

I don't think it affected  at the deep evolutionary level.

I also don't think cave drawings etc. were "art" in the modern bourgeois sense of "individual creative expression. " pictures of animals are probably animal taxonomy and kinship totems combined ; non-linear writing.  Not hallucinating Greenwich village artists ; that's an anachronistic error.

Yes I've seen them .Have you read Levi-Strauss's _Savage Mind_ . Stone Age people are botanists ,zoologist a and taxonomists. How about his _Totemism_ ? and I teach my class that ancient Stone Age people were scientists . Also, kinship is the fundamental organizing principle of Stone Age societies , and it is a phylogeny , family "tree," just like the tree of life used to represent taxonomy.

No way they were thinking like modern bourgeois individualist artists, "creating " some individualist expression.

Just seeing them with a 21st century consciousness , without self -critiquing that consciousness with anthropological knowledge on how fundamental biological and kinship thinking is for foragers will mislead you.

I was an undergrad in Ann Arbor in 1968; you better ask somebody.

There were discussions of ancient hallucinogenic use in Marshall Sahlins class. I've known about the theory for 40 years. I have after long deliberation concluded the above.

I also teach the origin , history and structure of writing in my class. I have concluded that it is more like that cave drawings ( 2 dimensional representations of 3 dimensions) were probably a form of pre-linear writing as I say the animals may be a clever combination of biological and kinship taxonomy.
"Just" totems and taxonomy is the opposite of the point. Totems as kinship categories and biological knowledge were profoundly and centrally important for Stone Age people. See Levi-Strauss and Marshall Sahlins.

Modern groups have kinship totems that are different animal species. All animals are related through a common ancestor species ( Darwin); all members of a kin group are related through a common ancestor person ; that is , both are taxonomic structures.

Main way cooking may have affected our biological evolution is to allow selection for smaller teeth and jaws because cooked food requires less chewing . Brain size increase is continuous from Homo erectus ( 2 million years ago) because culture is selected for and bigger brains allow more intelligent use of culture. Discovery of fire may contribute to bigger brain because less teeth and bones in the skull leaves more space for brain size.

There I just explained your own point better than you did.

Beautifying the Beast in human evolution

Dear Prof.

I am teaching anthropology at Wayne County Community College in Detroit, Michigan , and we use your  book Physical Anthropology . I would like to run a couple of ideas by you.

1) I'm thinking of our culture bearing species as having a LaMarckian-LIKE adaptive ability in that culture allows inheritance of acquired adaptive characteristics by one generation from parent , grandparent and dead generations of the species; acquired by human invention.

2) This creates a Darwinian neo-teleology for Natural History ( replacing the theological teleology with "Man" as the direction toward which natural history tends that Darwin's theory negated); because culture as a LaMarckian-like adaptive process does not depend on a random and coincidental fit between the survival problem posed by the environment and the genetic solution to the problem . What is inherited , extrasomatically, is designed to solve a survival problem posed by the environment .

On the origin of culture and humanity: Perhaps upright-bipedalism/ ORIGIN OF HANDS was selected for because , NOT BECAUSE HANDS ALLOWED THE INVENTION OF TOOLS FOR HUNTING OR PROCESSING MEAT p;BUT AS THE FIRST INSTRUMENTS OF LANGUAGE, SOUND MAKERS -MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS. ;So, homo habilis Also, dancing or body language . Culture ! Culture as communicating symbolically with music was one selective advantage of hands. . But culture originates with hands as sound communication-music.

More importantly music conferred mating -courting advantage on the musician . Especially music and dancing.  In general , culture bestows all around superior courting skills, manners. They are the original manners.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly , erect posture exposes genitalia of both sexes to sight more than on all fours. It is sexier .   So, erect posture gives the ultimate selective advantage compared to on all fours: superior differential fertility !

Beautifying the Beast theory of prettifying trend in morphology among hominins ( hominids with hands):

Why this trend of reduction of sexual dimorphism , rough and big and protruding faces ? Because human females were the first scientists of genealogical and reproductive  physiology ; noticing a correlation between appearance of their children and which male they let fertilize them .  Mother Nature selection or Mother as natural selector .

This derives theoretically from Antoinette Blackwell's feminist critique of Darwin's masculinism, validated by modern Darwinisms recognition that differential fertility is more important than differential mortality in determining fitness

There are a couple of other "lemmas," .

Do you have any criticisms ?

Labour Power

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_power

Labour power (in GermanArbeitskraft; in Frenchforce de travail) is a crucial concept used by Karl Marx in his critique of capitalistpolitical economy. Marx distinguished between the capacity to do work, labour power, from the physical act of working, labour.[1] Labour power exists in any kind of society, but on what terms it is traded or combined with means of production to produce goods and services has historically varied greatly.
Under capitalism, according to Marx, the productive powers of labour appear as the creative power of capital. Indeed, "labour power at work" becomes a component of capital, it functions as working capital. Work becomes just work, workers become an abstract labour force, and the control over work becomes mainly a management prerogative.

Marx introduces the concept in chapter 6 of the first volume of Capital, as follows:
"By labour-power or capacity for labour is to be understood the aggregate of those mental and physical capabilities existing in a human being, which he exercises whenever he produces a use-value of any description."[2]
He adds further on that:
"Labour-power, however, becomes a reality only by its exercise; it sets itself in action only by working. But thereby a definite quantity of human muscle, nerve. brain, &c., is wasted, and these require to be restored."[2]
A much shorter, to-the-point explanation of labour-power can be found in the introduction and second chapter of Marx's Wage Labour and Capital.[3]

According to Marx, there is a clear distinction between labour and labour-power. "Labour" refers to the actual activity or effort of producing goods or services (or what Marx calls use-values). Neoclassical economistssometimes refer to this as "labour services." On the other hand, "labour-power" (or "labouring power") refers to a person's ability to work, his or her muscle-power, dexterity and brain-power. Marx took over this distinction from Hegel's Elements of the Philosophy of Rightand gave it a new significance.
In some ways, this concept is similar to that of "human capital". However most likely Marx himself would have considered the concept of human capital a reification, the purpose of which was to convince the worker that he was really a capitalist. The evidence for this interpretation is the following quote from Capital Vol. 2:
The distinction Marx introduces between labour and labour-power was intended to solve a

problem which David Ricardo failed to solve—the problem of explaining how surplus valuecould arise out of the exchange between capital and labour.

Under capitalism, according to Marx, labour-power becomes a commodity – it is sold and bought on the market. A worker tries to sell his or her labour-power to an employer, in exchange for a wage or salary. If successful (the only alternative being unemployment), this exchange involves submitting to the authority of the capitalist for a specific period of time.
During that time, the worker does actual labour, producing goods and services. The capitalist can then sell these and obtain surplus value; since the wages paid to the workers are lower than the value of the goods or services they produce for the capitalist.[citation needed]
Labour power can also be sold by the worker on "own account", in which case he is self-employed, or it can be sold by an intermediary, such as a hiring agency. In principle a group of workers can also sell their labour-power as an independent contracting party. Some labour contracts are very complex, involving a number of different intermediaries.
Normally, the worker is legally the owner of his labour power, and can sell it freely according to his own wishes. However, most often the trade in labour power is regulated by legislation, and the sale may not be truly "free"—it may be a forced sale for one reason or another, and indeed it may be bought and sold against the real wishes of the worker even although he owns his own labour power. Various gradations of freedom and unfreedom are possible, and free wage labour can combine with slave labour or semi-slavery.
The concept of labour power as a commodity was first explicitly stated by Friedrich Engels in The Principles of Communism (1847):

Human nature and essence versus capitalist immorality and greed

"Capitalism has no moral and ethical values: everything is for sale. It is impossible to educate people in such an environment. People become selfish and sometimes turn into bandits." - FIDEL CASTRO

Vanessa : "Even Pope Francis agrees."

Lewis : "The "human nature" and "capitalism is the only system that works" arguments, are standard capitalist propaganda. There is no such thing as "fixed" human nature, as human beings are adaptive and social creatures--tending towards the norms of the people about them. Capitalism values property over people--thus training people to relate to one another in less than human interactions, All the economic systems prior to capitalism "worked" up until conditions dictated change to something else. Where socialism has "failed" is not due to any inherent  "in congruence" to human nature, but the sabotage by reactionary forces."

CBrown: Yes, Lewis , the Stone Age begins 2.5 million years ago with homo Habilis . Stone tools means they gave language and culture. So, that's probably the point of 23 chromosome pairs , etc.  The mode of production is foraging and hunting and gathering until about 6,000 years ago when the changing you mention starts . That's the advent of swivilization , male supremacist family , private property ( slavery ) , the state (war), ; actually the end of civilization.  .  Culture and language were inherent peacemakers and sharing making for 99% of time of species existence. That's when our nature became hard wired , as biologists say.  Our natures are inclined to sharing and peaceful ness.

///

Oduwa:
"At the same time it's the only system that works, because it doesn't go against human nature. We need to fix capitalism so that it works for everybody not just the one percent."

///

CB: No capitalism, selfishness is against human nature. In our genes , we tend to be sharing and altruistic , not selfish . The difference between the original humans and animals was human shared ; it was all for one and one for all in a big way , super-cooperative. We have to get back to our true human nature.

Speaking of Ukraine:

"Just recently, I was reminded of the fact that, for the past 25 years, Cuba has been treating 26,000 Ukrainian citizens affected by the Chernobyl nuclear accident at its Tarara international medical center in Havana. Cuba has continued to do so, it must be emphasized, though even the potential for any help for this effort from the Soviet Union passed long ago."

Obama Democratic Party

The Democratic Party is stronger than it's been since Johnson.  Proof of its strength is that Obama allowed a non-Democrat , Socialist (!) run for President. Obama has made it so strong and united it's historic, while somehow just by being Black, caused the Republican Party to go into white supremacist hysterical death rattle.

Stunned : More white people for Trump than Clinton

A Facebook friend of mine said she was stunned reading  a poll several weeks ago findin that more of ALL of white people support Trump than Clinton (!) White supremacy :the Confederacy is not yet history.

Trump got zero percent of Black vote in Ohio and Pennsylvania polls.

"Trump's margin among male voters dropped from 14 points last week to 9 points this week and he now leads Clinton 51 percent to 42 percent. His 13-point margin among white voters last week also shrank to 9 points this week. White voters now favor Trump to Clinton 50 percent to 41 percent."

http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/poll-clinton-expands-lead-after-becoming-presumptive-nominee-n591531

I know it's shocking, but true. The majority of white people voted for McCain and Romney ( and against Bill Clinton). It's a long standing majority against the Democratic Party as the party of Black People. It's the infamous success of the Nixon-Reagan Southern Strategy from a different angle. It just becomes shocking that it holds for a glaring white supremacist like Trump. Reaganites were slicker with their white supremacy , though they never fooled Black people. It's been clear to us all along. Black people voted 94% or so against Reagan both times.
