Dear Women's Declaration Signatories,

Democrats at the state level are standing up and saying no to their party leadership on the issue of male athletes being allowed to compete in women’s sports. In 2022, several Democrats voted yes on a bill to protect women’s sports for women and girls in Louisiana and one did the same in Pennsylvania. Three Democrats in the North Carolina House followed suit in 2023. Two North Carolina Democrats even voted to override their own party’s Governor’s veto of the bill in August. We will remind you to take this action every month until the Senate passes legislation to protect women and girls in sports.

Earlier this month, ten members of the women’s swim team at Roanoke college took a strong stand for female-only sports. Kara Dansky, the president of Women’s Declaration International USA was there to support them. You can read about it here.

On April 20, the U.S. House voted to pass H.R. 734, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023. Now the bill is before the Senate.

A similar bill, also in the Senate, is S. 613 S. 613, which was introduced in March and is currently before the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committee.

We have created an easy action for signatories to email their U.S. Senators and urge them to pass one of these bills. This should not be a partisan issue.

Women’s Declaration International, USA (WDI USA) is the American chapter of a global organization dedicated to protecting women’s sex-based rights. Our founding document, the Declaration on Women’s Sex-Based Rights, re-affirms women and girls' sex-based rights as enumerated in the 1979 Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and subsequent international agreements, and challenges the discrimination we experience from the replacement of the category of sex with that of ‘gender identity’. The Declaration is a clear call to law and policy makers to retain the sex-based biological definition of woman. WDI is a nonpartisan organization which advocates for human rights for women and girls through volunteer political activism. WDI USA does not endorse any action which is unsafe or violates state or federal civil or criminal law.
