Right now: write to your MP Dear Charles, Everyone’s hard work is paying off and we have a real chance to make the Equality Act clear. This is the most important thing we can do to protect women’s rights, right now. The Westminster Hall debate will be on Monday 12th June at 4.30pm. This isn’t the place where decisions are made, but it is an important place to get the arguments heard. Will you write to your MP today? Tell them about the debate. Ask to meet them. And ask them to take part on the 12th. The most important thing for them to hear is that this is not about changing the law; it is about clarifying it. It is about making clear that the protections against sex discrimination that have been in place since 1975 were not swept away by the Gender Recognition Act in 2004. Everyone’s human rights can be protected by the Equality Act. It only takes two minutes to send an email using our template (but do add a few words of your own). Onwards and upwards!Maya Forstater Email my MP now We promised we’d hold an event in the constituency that got the most signatures on our petition to make the Equality Act clear. We overshot our target of 100,000 signatures and the top five constituencies were all in Edinburgh. So Edinburgh it is! For obvious reasons, we’ll have to let you know the venue later. But it has a bar, a tram stop close by, a rail station (Edinburgh Waverley) 45 minutes’ walk away, disabled parking, wheelchair access and adapted toilets. Friday 16th June 7pm to 11pm Join us for a celebration with Maya Forstater, Helen Joyce and most of the Sex Matters team, along with three special guests: Joanna Cherry KC MP, For Women Scotland’s Marion Calder and Elaine Miller, aka Gussie Grips.
