Yes I actually hadn't thought of all these rural rebellions in the Civil War! Only the Black troops. And I'm a student of Aptheker ( we literally exchanged dozens of letters) who revolutionized history discipline with his book on slave revolts before the war . I didn't put my 2 and 2 together. 1960's urban rebellions were the 20th Century legacy of these , to some extent . <

Then those migrating North weren't just escaping Jim Crow . They didn't go to the rural North ; they went to urban power centers such that by the 1960's "urban" was synonymous with Black. Including the federal government city Chocolate City DC . Black Mayors , Black Power . Black People are collectively politically smart , playing role of minority since 1619.
